The Association of Surgeon's of Uganda is one of the oldest medical associations in Africa and has been in existence for more than 50 years. This is a professional association which brings together surgeons in Uganda with the purpose of promoting networking, standardising surgical training as well as ensuring the advancement of good surgical practice in Uganda.
The Association organises annual conferences during which the latest advances in surgery in Uganda and Africa are discussed.
The association organises annual surgical camps in which patients that cannot afford surgery can have surgical services brought to the nearest health units in their communities. In these camps, more than 10,000 patients have received free surgery in the last decade alone.
The association of surgeons has a grants desk that is aimed at supporting researchers with innovative ideas that can improve surgical care in Uganda.
Through partnerships with several organisations, ASOU organises annual trainings and short courses for surgeons and medical officers.
